What enabling knowledge (facts, concepts, principles) will students need to perform effectively and achieve success?
For example,
In order to produce an audio podcast,
a student know (background knowledge):
- the elements of story or narrative
- the investigative reporting protocol
- the fundamentals of voice, tone & audience
a student must apply (process skills):
- the basics of audio recording/editing
- the basics of mixing in music & sound
- arrangement, mastering & rss publishing

For this particular project, students will need to understand the fundamentals of persuasion. I have done quite a bit of scaffolding on persuasive writing. The class has collectively done some brainstorming about additional ways that they could persuade the audience of their argument using other types of texts (i.e. images, music, audio, links to other sources, etc.).
Students need to know how to use the functions of a blog (which, apparently, many of them already know how to do). They would need to learn how to import different texts, such as music. They would need to know how to hyperlink, etc.
Students should know...... I don't think so, because I don't know. I think our students will continue to struggle as long as I'm struggling as a educator. But I'm and committed to know - whatever it is I should know.

I would like for us to create a musical tribute/biography for the different influences on hip hop.
This could be in the form of an imovie.
Students need to know how to access music, photos, and information.
They also need to know how to write bibliographies to document where they find their information.
Rather than kmowledge, the importance of skills, of focus, of discipline is very important.
Perhaps that knowledge or faith that with practice and application, that they can reach any goal.
Students will need to come to class with the positive thought that they can do mathematics
I want my students to be able to complete a service learning project this semester, though I don't know if we will have time to implement it with the degree of technology I would prefer in the remainder of this semester. I'd like for them volunteer their time at a local community-based organization and simultaneously investigate a relevant social issue via online research and interviews. They would need to know how to put together an interview, record and transcribe their results. The culminating result would be that they would present their findings at a fair on campus, which would be open to parents and community members.
In terms of technology, they will also need to know how to navigate a blog, record audio, and manipulate podcasting tools. In order to conduct the fair, we would also need to create tri-fold posterboards for those who would want to present their work in this way.
I want 54321 to know that this is hard to get used to when you just do it for the first time. But, it becomes more natural the more we do it. Jabari
